About Hastings of Hunua
This web site documents four main families the HASTINGS originally from
Gringley on the Hill and South Leverton , small villages in north-
east Nottinghamshire. Later from Lincoln and many points south - my Fathers
ancestors.
Secondly the TIMSON family from the Burbage district in Leicestershire, by the
mid 1800`s they had moved to the City of Leicester and later to Thurmaston in
Leicestershire - my Mothers family.
The third family is that of my paternal Grandmother - the Miles from
Hertfordshire.
Fouthly that of my maternal Grandmother the WATTS from Withybrook,
Warwickshire.
Many other surnames are to be found of people that married into these four
families. I have kept closely to the main trees and resisted the temptation to
add more distant relations just to boost the numbers of people.
Branches of the family are to be found in England, USA, South Africa, New
Zealand and Australia.
Currently with the help of relatives Frank Hastings, Carol Homewood, Vivienne
Marvell, Jeany Poulsen, Sue Wilkinson, Roy Mc Leod,Robin Comley and Marilyn
Coetzee I have traced the Hastings tree from John, who was born in Gringley on
the Hill, Nottinghamshire, England in 1652 through to my grandson Dafydd
born in Papakura, New Zealand on 22nd August 2007. Much of the information
regarding William Granville and Donald Pierre Hastings was provided by Victoria
Worsley of the Henry Moore Foundation, Leeds, England. The Timsons with the
assistance of Amanda Lord, Keith Foxon, Pauline Walden, Ann Timson and Doug
Poulter from William born around 1740 in Higham on the Hill, Leicestershire and
the Watts and Miles to the mid 1800`s.
